New and exciting things coming up!

Hey there all you Earth-shipians! We have some exciting things coming up for the next meeting this month and some other events:
* This next Earthship Meeting in Redmond on September 28th will consist of some new things to talk about, like things you can decorate your house with using materials like quickrete and some decorations with tires.
*We have a build going on in Port Angeles! Stay tuned for that information coming up as well as being talked about at the meeting.
* We need materials for the build in Port Angeles! We will also need things like clay, wheelbarrows, etc. for the build. If you know where to get tires from, bottles, what have you, please let us know!
* We got a green light for a build in Clark County, WA As well! I know it’s not Seattle, but it’s another possibility for a build and to get Earthships out there!

As we get more information, a lot of that will be covered in the Redmond meeting at Soulfood Coffee House! We encourage all of you new and experienced with Earth Ships to come check us out and see what ideas we have to share! And of course, notes on what we discussed will be posted on the site as well as the Facebook page for those that aren’t able to make the meeting.

Please join us for a lovley evening at the Seattle Trash Studio. This the flagship project of Earthship Seattle. A beautiful location in the Columbia City district of Seattle. There is limited parking so you will want to plan to park on the street somewhere around Edmunds St and MLK. Or just use the light rail to get there. We will have people start arriving at 5:30, but the actual meeting will start at 6:00 pm. This is going to be a “Snackluck” event, because we know many of you will just be getting off work and will be hungry. Please bring a snack to share. We will tour the Trash Studio and have an open conversation about Earthships and sustainable building in general. The address to the Trash Studio will be announced as we get closer to the meetup.

Volunteer call for Ellensburg Earthship Build

Hello Earthship enthusiasts, our friends in Ellensburg informed us of a volunteer opportunity. Feel like getting your hands dirty and seeing what it takes to build an Earthship? This is that opportunity, please read on…

“Starting in August 2017 we are building a single-U simple survival model Earthship in Ellensburg, WA and need your help. An Earthship is a passive solar building made from recycled materials.

No experience necessary…we will teach you everything you need to know! Whether you can come out for a day or multiple days to help every volunteer is greatly appreciated! We have work for everybody, no matter your physical strength! There are lots of jobs to do… labor jobs range from pounding tires, making glass bottle bricks, mixing and laying cement, carpentry, etc. Light labor jobs available, such as stacking an aluminum can wall…anyone can do it! There is plenty to do in non-labor jobs as well: donating materials or funds, collecting materials, providing meals, etc. Camping space available on-site. No children, please.

Register to volunteer via email at HutNuts@hotmail.com.

– Doug & Stacey”

Earthship Seattle Meetup (in Seattle)

Join us at this unique waterfront location in Ballard for a BBQ and open discussion about Earthships. We will get you all up to speed on the current projects we have going on. When you arrive look for the gate with the Cascadia flag on it, and you’re there. There is plenty of parking to be had. We are actively looking for volunteers, so please bring your visions, skills, and passion to the party. Also, bring something to grill and something to share. This is a BBQ!

Workshop @ Natural Mystic Festival 2017

Earthship Seattle is proud to be doing a workshop at the Natural Mystic Festival. Join us the weekend of Aug 4th ticket info is listed in the event. Courtney Skony and Jamie Owens will be taking you down the rabbit hole of Earthships and sustainable living. At this workshop, you will learn about a less than zero carbon footprint off grid house called an Earthship.

We will carefully go over the 6 principals of Biotecture:

  1. Thermal/solar heating and cooling.
  2. Solar & wind electricity.
  3. Contained sewage treatment.
  4. Building with natural and recycled materials.
  5. Water harvesting,
  6. Food production.

We promise to show you lots of pictures of Earthships from around the world. Then we will have a question and answer time. After which we will teach you how to turn your household trash into building materials. Then we will have a creative conversation about the things we can build with our upcycled building materials. We are most excited to network with you about our current big project. To build a living breathing Earthship here in Seattle. We have 501c3 sponsorship and are not afraid to use it. First, we need the land. Then we will order the custom designs from Biotecture Headquarters. Next, we permit this beautiful structure. Then, at last, we build it! Please join us Cascadians! We look forward to sharing our knowledge with you.
